Michael has over 25 years' experience teaching piano and singing to students of all ages — from complete beginners to those achieving ABRSM exam distinctions and winning scholarships at prestigious schools.

Trained at Leeds University, the Royal Northern College of Music, the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama — where he studied conducting — and the Franz Liszt Hochschule für Musik in Weimar, Germany, Michael brings a depth of musical knowledge that goes well beyond exam preparation.

He has also studied piano privately with Mikhail Kazakevich, Russian concert pianist and Professor at Trinity Laban, who introduced him to the Russian cantabile ("singing") school of piano playing.

As a theatre singing specialist, Michael spent over seven years playing piano for music theatre singing classes at Guildford School of Acting. He credits his friend and mentor Rob Forbes with his depth of knowledge of vocal techniques and passion for singing technique — an influence that continues to shape his teaching today.

More recently he has worked at Mountview Academy playing for Acting Through Song and directing musical theatre ensembles.

An active professional musician, Michael is currently Music Director of three choirs in Hertfordshire and West London, and has worked as répétiteur and conductor for multiple London opera companies.

This continuing professional life means his teaching is grounded in current, real-world musical standards — not just the examination syllabus.

Michael works with students preparing for ABRSM grades, drama school auditions, and school music scholarships — as well as adults who simply want to play or sing better.
